Music, dance and street entertainment returned once again to Romsey in 2019, when the 27th Beggars Fair took over the town. We saw over 90 acts spread over 20+ venues and all for Free at Romsey’s annual Summer Music Festival.
"The best Beggars Fair yet, so much variety and great performances!"
This year’s Beggars’ Fair was one of the best ever, judging by the fantastic comments we received from local supporters on the day.
More than 3,000 people came to the Memorial Park, to listen to fantastic music, watch some amazing dance routines and generally have a good time with their families.
We had a real range of music: the brilliant drummers of Bat2K, the energy & enthusiasm of The Empty Space, One Word & Circus of Five (although there were only 3 of them!), the very skilled Leon C, who is now one of our most frequent performers and Romsey School Jazz Band who were a fantastic act with which to close the event.
Contrast Dance Company were amazing – they are of a professional level, every routine is better than the last! They also stepped into the breach when one act failed to appear. Without hesitation, Hayley had organised an impromptu Danceathon which was a roaring success with the crowd and even saw Wendy & Liz busting some moves (not necessarily the right ones!)
The sideshows were as popular as ever, Splat the Rat and Balls in the Bucket both brought out the competitive streak in children & adults!
Everyone said what a great day they’d had and how much they had enjoyed all the acts. People do look forward to the Youth Festival and we very much hope we can obtain funding to allow us to put it on again next year. We make no money from the event, but need to raise £3000 to cover costs.
